Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Jumwa has refuted claims that he was bribed to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

UDA party, which is heavily associated with Deputy President William Ruto, has been rumoured to have enticed Jumwa by gifting her a luxurious house to ditch Raila and back Ruto's presidential bid.

In an interview with a local television station, Jumwa set the record straight saying that DP Ruto did not gift her the said mansion.

Jumwa explained that she owns several mansions which she built herself through her own hard work.

“Why would Ruto buy me a house, yet I have been with Ruto for like four years now? I have a number of luxurious houses that I did not get from either supporting ODM or William Ruto. I built the houses from proceeds of my own hard work and built some using loans that I’m still repaying,” Jumwa said.

The vocal legislator said she only supports DP Ruto because of his ideologies and the promises he has made to the coastal region once he ascends to power.

Jumwa who is eyeing the Kilifi governor's seat in the August general election also made it clear that she respects Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Jumwa said Raila's contribution to the nation can be seen by generations, however the two differed ideologically, forcing her to decamp from ODM and join UDA.
