The Kenya Kwanza Coalition in Kilifi County has started experiencing internal wrangles days after the Pamoja African Alliance party joined the political formation.

Members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party have accused the Kilifi Governor of lying to the electorate that the county was a Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) zone and that no other party within Kenya Kwanza should be fielding candidates in the area.

Addressing journalists at the UDA offices in Kilifi town, Malindi MP and Kilifi county governor aspirant on UDA ticket Aisha Jumwa flanked by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, asked Kingi to suspend all PAA activities and instead campaign for UDA candidates.

Jumwa challenged Kingi to take up the role given to him by Deputy President William Ruto to market his presidential candidacy across the larger Coast region and leave Kilifi to the duo.

“Kenya Kwanza Coalition and UDA have been and will continue to support actively and promote all its candidates vying for various positions in Kilifi County, there will be no zoning in Kilifi County as agreed in Karen,” she said.

The legislators also said that Kingi’s poor track record as a governor will negatively impact the popularity of Kenya Kwanza in Kilifi County.

“While we appreciate Kingi as the outgoing governor, we note with great concern that his bad record as county chief may affect UDA and Kenya Kwanza's popularity in the county unless he starts sanitizing himself among the population. I played a huge role in making sure that he joined Kenya Kwanza. Kilifi is a UDA zone meaning six wheelbarrows,” she added.

On his part, Baya underscored that Ruto will be on the presidential ballot on a UDA ticket.

“Kingi should know that by joining Kenya Kwanza he is supporting the wheelbarrow and his party comes last in the coalition. He should support all UDA candidates in the county and as we agreed he should withdraw all his PAA aspirants,” he said.

He added that UDA was the most popular party in Kilifi followed by ODM and PAA appears nowhere saying that if he continues to bring confusion in Kenya Kwanza he may fail to get any slot when Ruto wins in August.
