Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Ayub Savula has said that it is possible that Musalia Mudavadi led-Amani National Congress (ANC) can join Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja.

Speaking outside parliament on Wednesday, Savula said nothing was impossible but that he will not allow Musalia Mudavadi to team up with Deputy President William Ruto.

“I can’t say he (Musalia) is joining Azimio (la Umoja) or not. Anything is possible but working with Ruto is no,” he said when asked whether Musalia will join Raila’s Azimio la Umoja Movement, adding that he (Savula) will attend the much-publicized Bukhungu rally where Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli is expected to rally Luhya community behind Raila.

"We will have an NDC (National Delegates Conference) on January 15. We'll endorse Mudavadi as the party's flag bearer and give him mandate to look for a coalition with other like-minded leaders," the vocal ANC MP said.

Savula said he was in support of Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021 that seeks to streamline how coalitions are formed ahead of the general elections.

"Our party leader summoned us through a PG (Parliamentary Group) meeting and instructed us to support the Bill.

"He was only against the six-month timeline for coalition formation and that's why I tabled an amendment," Savula added.

The Lugari MP has expressed interest in the Kakamega governor seat in next year's poll.

Wycliffe Oparanya is serving his second and last term as the governor of Kakamega County.

Savula will contest for the seat alongside Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala (ANC) and former Senator Boni Khalwale (UDA).
