Central Organization of Trade Union Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has taken an issue with Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi accusing him of seeking sympathy votes by attacking the government.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, Atwoli claimed that Mudavadi was seeking sympathy from electorates by attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration.

Atwoli statement comes days after Mudavdi criticized President Kenyatta's State of the Nation Address insinuating that the speech had some loopholes and did not reflect the true conditions in the country.

Mudavadi also criticised the president over his Wednesday remarks in Nakuru in which he appeared to endorse ODM leader party, Raila Odinga.

"I listened to the President during the State of the Nation Address and it may be statically correct that the GGP may have hit Ksh 11 million, but one statistic was missing in the speech was that 7.5 per cent of this is public debt."

"So if we want an economy that is okay, and if those figures are accurate, then why is the rate of unemployment high? he questioned.

Mudavadi's statement did not, however, sit well with Atwoli who challenged him to stop criticizing the government to gain votes.

Atwoli told the ANC party leader that the president is not his competitor in the 2022 presidential race, therefore, he shouldn't waste his time attacking him.

“Why are they challenging President Kenyatta? He does not want to be re-elected. Why are you wasting time on him instead of announcing your presidential bid and competing with Raila and DP Ruto?” Atwoli posed.

“This is not the time for blame games, it is the time of competing. They say they are waiting to see the mistakes their competitors will make while campaigning. Can you see the kind of stupidity they have?”

Atwoli also criticized Mudavadi and his colleagues in One Kenyan Alliance for failing to come out as serious contenders in the 2022 presidential race.

The trade unionist claimed that at the moment, the presidential race is between two horses, Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

“Some people are running away with the votes and you are still undecided, you will wait forever and stay there. They should be where Raila and Ruto are,” he said.
