Azimio’s running mate selection panel names Kalonzo, Karua, Moi, Joho in its first shortlist

The Azimio Running mate Selection Panel has on Friday, May 6, 2022, released the names of candidates who have made it through its first shortlist.

The Committee, which is chaired by ex-cabinet minister Noah Wekesa, was tasked with the search for a suitable candidate to deputize the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

In a statement shared on social media by the press secretary in Raila Odinga’s campaign secretariat Dennis Onsarigo, the Noah Wekesa-led committee stated that it received 20 applications in response to its earlier invitation for expression of interest in the position.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua and KANU chairman Gideon Moi are among the candidates who have made it past the first filtration of candidates.

Sabina Chege, Peter Kenneth shortlisted by Azimio running mate selection panel

Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, whose names were proposed by the ruling Jubilee party, have also been shortlisted for the coveted position.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho who also doubles up as the deputy party leader of the Orange party also made the cut. National Liberal Party nominee Stephen Tarus was also shortlisted among the Azimio top guns.

The committee clarified that the other 13 applicants were not considered because their names had not been submitted by the constituent parties of the political formation.

The panel is now expected to submit a single name of the Deputy President candidate on or before May 10, 2022.
