Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has accused the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party officials of unfairness after she was reportedly asked to drop her bid for the county's gubernatorial seat.

Speaking on Thursday, December 30, while on a tour of Mwea and Gichugu constituencies, Ngirici claimed that she has already decamped from UDA and that she will vie for the gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

The legislator further disputed Deputy President William Ruto who said that UDA will hold free and fair nominations for her candidates ahead of the August 2022 polls.

“If they are telling you to vie for Mwea seat, do you think there will be fair nominations?" Wangui posed to the residents of Kangai in Mwea.

"They received over Ksh200 million from local politicians to buy nomination tickets, do you think there will be fair nomination?” She added.

Ngirici further revealed that she spent over Ksh40 million during last year's general elections and that she is not in a financial capacity to purchase a UDA nomination ticket for Ksh200 million.

“I better give you the money instead of buying a UDA ticket,” she said.

The lawmaker was a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto until late last month when Korinyaga governor Anne Waiguru moved to UDA.
