Chaos, riots mar UDA nominations in Embakasi Central
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries in Kayole, Embakasi Central were halted for three hours after the voters protested delays in the commencement of the exercise at polling stations.
The chaos erupted after the voters started rioting to question why the agents and aspirants had been locked up in a classroom for too long and the clerks had taken long to open the polling station.
Anti-Riot Police officers were deployed to man the area as rigging claims emerged and voters threatened to attack election officials.
They also complained that the clerks were too slow and were at the time that they opened were allowing only four people at a time.
“They are allowing only four people to go in at a time. The four who go in again take about 20 minutes to vote and we are even perplexed with what is going on,” lamented one of the agents who sort anonymity.
Angry voters standing in long queues said they had hoped the process would go on well and smoothly for them to resume their duties.
"Time has gone so much and almost all of us have not voted despite being here early. We have persons with disabilities who have been queuing for hours," one of the voters said.
The voters were wailing and shouting all over questioning why they had been locked outside and they are the voters.
“I came here to vote for my aspirant but I cannot understand why we have been locked outside and are expected to vote. We will reject the whole exercise,” Samson Ndungu\, a UDA supporter, said.
