The Babambo clan which straddles Bungoma has endorsed Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka (Ford Kenya) to run for the county governorship.

During a meeting in Kimilili town yesterday, which brought together over 5,000 clan members, they decried marginalisation by the current regime.

Musikiti Kusimba, the clan chairman, said that during the past tenure of Lusaka as governor, he invested in visible development projects. “We are proud of Lusaka; we want him back to save Bungoma; we are tired of the current regime,” he said.

Addressing the meeting, Lusaka said: “I could be the running mate for a presidential candidate but the call to serve my people has to be answered.”

Lusaka was the first Bungoma governor between 2013 to 2017. He was defeated in 2017 by Wycliffe Wangamati. Lusaka picked Hillary Chongwony from Mt Elgon as his running mate while Wangamati (DAP-K) has settled on Prof Charles Ngome (Tachoni Community, Webuye East).

Others are Zachariah Baraza (Independent), Kibabii University don Peter Khakina and former Communication Authority boss Francis Wangusi.
