Democratic Party will slash by 50 per cent nomination fees for women and youth aspiring for various political positions through its ticket ahead of August 9 polls.

The party’s presidential flag bearer and Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi said DP will also waive the charges for female aspirants who will be unable to raise the money but have leadership abilities.

“After wide consultations, the DP party has resolved to reduce by 50 percent the nomination fee waiver for our women who are seeking elective positions, youth aspirants and people living with disabilities,” he said.

Women and persons living with disabilities with extreme financial difficulties, he said, will not be required to pay the nomination fees.

Muturi was addressing women opinion leaders drawn from Kiambu County under the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation umbrella at a Ruiru hotel said the party’s move was meant to make it easier for women to aspire to leadership noting that they are traditionally discriminated against on gender biases.

Muturi said women and youth should empower each other and advocate for greater representation in leadership positions in the public sector.
