Deputy President William Ruto will on Wednesday, October 13 meet with aspirants eyeing various seats on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket from the vast Gusii region.

The move comes barely two weeks after the DP toured Kisii County in a charm offensive aimed at luring Kisii County voters to his team.

Kisii county has a total of 549,965 registered voters and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is seeking to increase the number to 753,453 voters.

Gusii region is known to be a swing vote area according to how the voters voted in the last two elections.

An aspirant who spoke to People Daily Digital said that the aspirants received invites last week that DP Ruto wanted to have a word with them in his Karen home.

“I was invited and I arrived in Nairobi yesterday. We shall all support the DP in the next elections as we believe he is the most suitable to be president,” the aspirant said.

Some of the aspirants are set to meet at a common joint in Karen where they will hold discussions before proceeding to DP Ruto’s home for the meeting that is scheduled to kick off at 11 am.

It is worth noting that DP Ruto has a number of leaders who are backing his presidential bid from the region.

They include; Joash Maangi who is the Kisii Deputy Governor, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, Alfa Miruka of Bomachoge Chache, Zaddock Ogutu MP Bomachoge Borabu.

Others are; Former Kisii town Mayor Samwel Omwando, Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, UDA Gusii coordinator Japheth Nyakundi, Director of Youth Affairs in the office of the DP Anthony Kibagendi and Essy Okenyuri.

Speaking to People Daily Digital, Nyakundi said that it was already clear that the Gusii people were willing to work with the DP.

He said that the number of new registered members and the number of those who had shown interest in contesting for various posts on a UDA ticket from the region was overwhelming.

“It is already clear that the people in Kisii want to work with DP Ruto and for that reason, we shall work round the clock to ensure that we deliver the votes,” Nyakundi said.

He also said that UDA party was the only party that had assured those eyeing various seats of a free and fair nomination.
