The Kenya Kwanza Coalition now wants preparations for the August 9 polls stopped until the electoral commission addresses the alleged irregular transfer of voters in its electronic register.

The coalition led by Deputy President William Ruto has been up in arms with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over the suspected illegal transfer of voters they argue largely affects voters from regions they claim to enjoy more support.

Yesterday, Chama Cha Kazi Party leader Moses Kuria who is a principal in the coalition insisted that the faction will not participate in the forthcoming polls until the electoral commission addresses the contentious matter.

Poll postponement

“It is a serious issue that Wafula Chebukati has not addressed himself and which may see the postponement of the general election because we are determined to go all the way to the Supreme Court. We will not because we have evidence to go into an election until everything is crystal clear,” he said.

Kuria regretted that despite numerous complaints by the political divide he belongs to; the commission has remained tight-lipped over the matter he says could be a recipe for chaos and ultimate economic disruptions.

“I don’t know why this conspiracy of silence is clipping in and even the media has lowered their status by failing to ask the commission about the contentious matter,” he added.

The Gatundu South MP accused the government of using state agencies to advance rigging of the elections saying the scheme was being executed through the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs.

“We have heard that CS Joe Mucheru has a team that has access to the IEBC database that is changing these details. Anyway, the rubber will meet the road, we will provide our evidence and we expect IEBC to confirm or refute those allegations,” he stated.

Kuria spoke after his clearance to vie for the Kiambu Governor’s position at the Kenya Institute of Science and Technology.
