Battle for supremacy looms in Nyanza as Miguna Miguna once exiled in Canada, returns to his ancestral home on Friday the same day ODM leader Raila Odinga is expected back.

Raila is on a holiday tour in India and is expected to be back in Nyanza to grace a number of social and political functions both in his backyard and in Nairobi.

Sources privy to his return shows that Raila will fly on Friday and then head straight to his Bondo home turf to attend the burial of his Wife Ida’s bodyguard.

Ida’s bodyguard Barack Onyango was shot dead in unclear circumstances that are still under investigation with unconcluded reports pointing to a love triangle.

But this is yet to be concluded by the police who are still pursuing crucial leads although one suspect has been arrested and is undergoing a psychiatric test.

Onyango hails from Bondo just a few meters away from Kang’o Kajaramogi Oginga ancestral Odinga’s home.

Several Nyanza politicians and many who interacted with the late Onyango, who is famed as a humble servant of the people, will flank Raila for his final burial rites.

This includes Siaya County leaders led by Siaya governor James Orengo and William Oduol and Senator Dr Oburu Oginga and several ODM MPs.

Yesterday, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili said they are anxiously waiting to welcome Raila back home after weeks of absence.

“Raila is still our hero and whoever thinks that he is written off politically, is mistaken,’ said Dr Owili, who said leaders are expected to receive Raila on Friday.

Miguna is also expected by mid-morning on Friday. He will be received by elders from Nyando and a host of former MPs and senators and MCAs in Nyanza.

Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and former Kisumu Senator Fred Outa is expected to lead a host of Luos allied to President William Ruto to welcome him.

The team plans to welcome Miguna at the Kisumu International Airport, and then move all the way in a convoy of vehicles to his ancestral home in Nyando.

They also plan to address roadside rallies or to make stopovers to greet the people in Kisumu city, Rabuor, and Ahero markets on their way to the Onjiko home.

Miguna is to be received at home and traditional religious rituals performed before he makes what his handlers claim will be a ‘big political statement.’

Well aware of the political machinations in the offing as the Luo transition politics begin to take shape, Siaya Senator Oginga also weighed in on the matter.

Dr Oburu said Miguna was still a political novice and wondered why the fuss about him asking Luos not to lose political direction by gambling at hopeless odds

“I hear some people are so mesmerized by Miguna! Miguna! Who is Miguna,’’ he posed. At the weekend, he posed a similar question in Deliverance Church in Migosi.

Dr Oburu’s sentiments come at a time when ODM Chairman John Mbadi and a host of ODM MPs allied to Mr. Odinga have warned Luos against pulling parallel

‘Raila is still our king and we have not anointed another one and/or indicated to do so soon,’’ Mbadi said in a candid interview.

Mbadi and MPs Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay town), Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang, and Kasipul MP Charles Were are against Luos warming to the State.

They cautioned political elites dashing to switch allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government led by William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua to hold their horses.
