Garissa Town MP Aden Duale now claims that Deputy President William Ruto is the only political leader with a leadership acumen close to that of the late ex-President Mwai Kibaki.

Speaking during Parliament's special sitting for lawmakers to pay tribute to the departed former Head of State, the legislator opined that the next president of Kenya must be a leader who possesses leadership qualities akin to those of the late Kibaki.

Duale exuded confidence that a Ruto presidency will see the economy grow by leaps and bounds just as it did during Kibaki's reign.

"The next leader of the Republic of Kenya must be like Kibaki and the closest person to Kibaki is none other than William Ruto. That is the closest man. William Ruto will like Kibaki turn our economy," he said.

The vocal legislator further took a swipe at his colleagues of the Christian faith, claiming that some of them were shedding crocodile tears yet they were part of a political cabal that gave Kibaki a difficult time during his second term.

"I want to urge my Christian brothers and sisters that when you want to mourn the dead don't shed crocodile tears. We know those who made Kibaki's life difficult in the 10th parliament and in the grand coalition government," he added.

A host of UDA-leaning leaders also echoed Duale's sentiments, stating that Kibaki's partner in the grand coalition, Raila Odinga, was hell-bent on sabotaging the government.

The leaders also threw jibes at the current regime, accusing it of derailing the economy that had grown under the watch of the departed former Head of State.

On his part, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah claimed that Kenyans should mourn the death of Kibaki and the death of the economy that he helped uplift.

"We will live to remember Mwai Kibaki as the greatest president of our time. As we mourn his death, we also mourn the death of our economy that he helped to uplift," he said.
