Former Bungoma county Assembly Speaker John Makali has ditched ODM for Ford Kenya in his quest to unseat Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Speaking in Bungoma town at the Weekend, Makali said he is ready to take over the mantle from Wamunyinyi.

“From today henceforth, I will be campaigning to ensure I send Wamunyinyi home. He has failed this constituency. Those labelling me as a coward are in for a rude shock,” said Makali.

He added: “I decided to join Ford Kenya because it is a party with an overwhelming grassroots support in Bungoma. This is the party of our forefathers and it is our heritage,” he said.

Makali warned his rivals to prepare for a tough political dwell that has never been seen before.  “

Makali, a lawyer, noted that he is ready to lead Kanduyi constituency and bring the needed changes that have been missing for a long time.

“I want good utilisation of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund, claiming the current leadership has totally failed. We want to see changes that will benefit everyone,” he said.

Kanduyi Ford Kenya secretary Tobias Khisa said that the meeting was meant to familiarise their new candidates with the party structures.

“We are not here to endorse Makali but to welcome him to our party. He will still have to face other structures,” he said.

Makali will face two other aspirants in the Ford Kenya primaries.

They are youthful Wafula Wakoli and Nairobi-based businessman Wafula Wambanda.
