The row surrounding Sh17 billion Kenya Power paid to Lake Turkana Wind Power Company in a power connection deal not delivered is headed to the National Assembly after an MP filed a petition.

In the explosive petition, Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap has urged National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to order an inquiry into the loss of taxpayers’ money in the deal that was entered into in 2010.

People Daily has established that in the power agreement that has turned into a white elephant project, Kenya Power contracted Lake Turkana Wind Power to evacuate electricity from Loyangalani to Suswa, Kenya’s main power interchange.

The project, according to Makilap has however dragged on for the last 10 years without meaningful explanation by players in the sector.

“We want to establish the connection between the project delay and the high cost of electricity tariffs in the country. I want parliament to investigate whether there was a breach of contract between Lake Turkana Wind Power in the power purchase agreement with Kenya Power,” the first-term MP says in his petition to parliament.
