Former Kasarani Member of Parliament (MP) Elizabeth Ongoro has joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Speaking during her reception party at the UDA headquarters on Monday, July 24, 2023, Ongoro who was welcomed by the party's Secretary-General Cleophas Malala stated that she was defecting to the ruling party because it means 'well' for the county.

The politician who has ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party asserted that her defection was self-thought and that she was not coerced nor bribed to join the President William Ruto-led party.

"We believe that the UDA party and its leadership means well for this county," she stated.

"I came to UDA with all my heart, with all my mental faculties functional and with my conviction that I have made the right decision," she added.

She also noted that even as she was heading to the ruling party, she did not harbour any bad feelings towards Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya leader Raila Odinga as she has supported him for a long time.

"Truth be told, I have supported Raila since I was a young girl, I joined ODM in my 20s. I come from the trenches. In 2007, 2013 and 2017 but in 2022 I had to ask myself if I can do the same thing over and over again," she added.

Further, the politician explained that she was heading to UDA because the opposition was fixated on achieving power by all means disregarding the lives of Kenyans.

"We can't seek power by allowing our youths to go to the streets and fight armed and trained police officers but we retreat to our armoured cars," she stated.
