Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua acknowledged that the Luo community has very intelligent people while stressing that Nyanza shouldn't be held back by negative politics.

Speaking in the Uriri constituency in Migori county on Saturday, March 25, 2023, while accompanying his boss president William Ruto for a tour of Nyanza, Gachagua said the Luo community should engage in the politics of prosperity and development.

"The people of Luo Nyanza the time has come for you to make a conscious decision to be part of Kenya and engage in the politics of prosperity and development because you deserve development," Gachagua said.

The DP further praised the community for producing very intelligent people in Kenya who have excelled in different professions.

"Na rais sisi tunakuwanga na huzini sana hawa jamii ya Wajaluo akili yao iko sawa kabisa. Wamekula vitabu sawasawa, Kiingereza iko sawa. Na ndio sisi tukienda pale University kusoma maprofessor na watu wa PhD wale walisomesha sisi wale tulitambua walitoka katika jamii ya Wajaluo. Sisi wenyewe tukienda pale Nairobi hospital tukitafuta madaktari wale wamekula vitabu sawasawa tunatafuta maprofessor kutoka jamii ya Wajaluo," Gachagua said.

Gachagua, however, claimed that the intelligent people from Luo Nyanza have been denied an opportunity to be involved in the management of the affairs of Kenya.

"It is therefore very sad and ironical that very intelligent people, a community with great ideas have been denied an opportunity to be involved in the management of the affairs of this great republic. And it is time for you now to make a decision, you must make a decision as a community," he said.

Gachagua praised renegade ODM MPs Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Mark Nyamita (Uriri) saying they should lead the Luo community into positive thinking and politics of development.

"And I want to salute honourable Nyamita, honourable Rabour, can you lead your people into positive thinking and politics of development so that these people can make a contribution to the republic of Kenya," he said.

The DP further claimed that Ruto 'liberated' the Kikuyu community from slavery and enslavement by one family, adding that the president's legacy will also be to 'liberate' the Luo community.

"Sisi watu kutoka Mt Kenya ulitusaidia. You helped us to liberate the people of Mt Kenya from the slavery of and the enslavement by one family. You again you have a duty your excellency to liberate this Luo community and bring it to mainstream politics of development and prosperity.

"And your excellency part of your legacy when your time to call it a day has come, one of the legacies ambaye utaangaliwa ni kusaidia hawa jamii ya Luo Nyanza uwarudishe kwa line ya maendeleo wachangie katika ujenzi wa taifa."
