Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has emerged as one of the top leaders in the country who will influence the voting pattern in Mombasa county.

In a poll result released by Infotrak, over 50% of Mombasa residents believe that the second-term governor will influence how they will vote come August.

With over 50% influence in the region, the governor beats Deputy President William Ruto who has constantly made trips to the region popularizing his presidential ambitions.

According to the poll, 53% of Mombasa residents believe the governor will influence their vote while only 48% will believe that DP Ruto has a say in the region's vote.

In the list, Governor Joho, however, came third after ODM party leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta who commands 59% and 54% respectively.

Joho's command in the region's politics does not come as a surprise more so after he was appointed by his party leader Raila to lead his presidential campaigns in the region.

In December last year, Raila promoted the governor to national politics due to his influence and loyalty to ODM, a party that is still enjoying massive popularity in Mombasa.

"Joho has never betrayed me despite facing very serious challenges. He has even been forced to fight my battles but he has never got tired of standing with me," Raila said.
