Governor Kimemia refutes claims that Mt Kenya governors support Raila because they fear intimidation from the State
Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia has refuted claims that the governors from the Mt Kenya region have been forced by the state to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking in a TV interview, Kimemia said that claims that governors from the region are being intimidated to support Raila were misplaced.
According to the governor, they have been supporting the ODM chief willingly because of his policies.
"Those of us who are supporting Raila's presidential bid are doing so willingly," he said.
Kimemia further dismissed claims by Deputy President William allies that Raila was President Uhuru Kenyatta's project. He noted that the former Prime Minister was a democrat and cannot be a state project.
Kimemia was responding to claims by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi that most leaders from the mountain are support Raila because they fear intimidation from the state.
Linturi claimed that most governors from the region are not supporting Raila willingly.
"Those punching Raila's candidature are governors, cabinet secretaries and PSes because they have been intimidated," Linturi claimed.
Linturi claimed that governors who wish to leave Jubilee are being threatened with high profile graft cases.
Kimemia, however, refuted the claims saying that Mt Kenya governors have no graft cases that the state can use to intimidate them.
"The governors from Mt Kenya are not criminals that we can be threatened or intimidated by EACC, DCI and KRA. We are supporting Raila because of his policies," the governor said.
He further claimed that voters from the region are giving the Opposition Chief their ears and are ready to listen to his agenda.
Kimemia's sentiment comes a day after Raila held a series of rallies in his county. Raila has held several rallies in the region spreading his Azimio La Umoja initiative to the people.
In his tours, Raila has been received by various county chiefs and business people from the region.
