Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his political rival Agriculture CS Peter Munya have come together to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The politician, on Monday, accompanied Raila in his tour in Meru county as he continued to spread his Azimio la Umoja initiative in the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking to the electorates during the rally, Kiraitu reminded voters from Meru County to vote for Raila in the 2022 General Elections with the promise that he will revive the miraa market.

"Baba (Raila) is well-known for the fight of the country's second liberation, would you want him to fight for miraa? Do you want Baba to fight for the youth? You people are the real army for Raila," Kiraitu told the charged crowd in the rally's stop-over.

On his part, CS Munya also reminded the crowd of the struggle Raila has gone through to ensure democracy is attained in the country. Munya also noted that the time has reached for the Meru community to ensure Raila has clinched the presidency come next year.

"You know that Baba (Raila) is our defender and he has fought for Kenya's democracy for years. His time to lead the country come next year has come," Munya told the crowd.

Kiraitu and Munya have been rivals since 2017 when they both contested for the Meru gubernatorial seat. Ever since their rivalry has been over the clash in ideologies and the Meru sub-tribe numbers.

The two leaders have been clashing over the leadership of the Meru county with observers noting that CS Munya is planning to come back and vie for the county's gubernatorial seat come 2022.

Despite their political rivalry, the two, on Monday, put their differences aside and joined Raila in his rally in Meru as they root for his presidency.
