The Green Congress of Kenya party has endorsed Raila’s presidential candidature, saying he was best placed to become the country’s fifth president.

Party co-leader Martin Ogindo said Raila Odinga had shown interest and readiness to fully implement the Constitution if elected.

“Indeed, we are convinced that the stewardship of the gains in implementing our new progressive Constitution as a country must safely be in the hands of the person who has demonstrated the greatest passion and commitment to its promulgation and implementation,” said Ogindo, a former MP for Rangwe.

The party had initially expressed interest in supporting Deputy President William Ruto.

In 2020, Ogindo was hosted by the DP.  But on Saturday, the outfit held its National Governing Council meeting and endorsed Raila.

During the meeting, the party also filled different positions, with Ogindo and Scola Chelangat picked as co-party leaders.

Hillary Alila was chosen as the chairman, Thomas Mariwa (vice-chairman), Betty Milgo (secretary for persons with disabilities), Salome Gikonyo (treasurer) and Charles Omanga (secretary for legal affairs).
