Guarantee fair primaries, Kalonzo told

Kalonzo's remarks came days after Ruto while speaking to supporters in Kalonzo's home turf, Kitui, stated that if he wins the August polls he will give him a job since he has suffered enough.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been challenged to ensure the party carries out free and fair nominations for the Machakos County governor candidate.

Kalonzo’s close allies, former Transport CAS Wavinya Ndeti and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, want Wiper’s nomination.

Makau and Wavinya have refused to yield ground in negotiations mediated by Kalonzo.

Makau is a second-term Mavoko MP while Wavinya served as a one-term Kathiani MP.

Yesterday, Makau (pictured) claimed Wavinya was lobbying for a direct ticket.

“Wavinya has refused to undergo nominations claiming she is popular,” said Makau who urged Kalonzo to guarantee free and fair nominations slated for April 13.

He added: “Kalonzo is an advocate of democracy and I want to appeal that he respects democracy and not interfere in the nominations or favour anyone. At the same time, I want to challenge my competitor to respect the will of the people if I defeat her in the primaries,” he said.

If elected, Makau pledged to support farmers cooperatives, agro-processing, accelerate infrastructure development and proper healthcare systems.

“I call upon my party leader, my supporters and election board to be sensitive on how to conduct primaries. I assure Kenyans that Wiper will carry the Machakos Governor seat,” said Makau.
