I will not run for Nairobi gubernatorial seat come 2022, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi says
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi says he will not contest for a gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Elections.
Reports of him vying for the seat had gathered momentum in the recent days prompting one of his social media followers to inquire if he will be seeking a county top seat.
In response, MP Wanyonyi said: "no, I'm not going for the gubernatorial seat."
When asked whether he feels threatened following the declaration by some people that they want to unseat him in Westlands come 2022, the MP said he is not concerned.
"I'm not concerned with others vying for the seat - it's their democratic right to vie for any seat including this one," he said,
Wanyonyi says he is focused on his current mandate as MP for Westlands adding that he will announce his future political ambitions at an opportune time.
"I'm still a member of parliament for Westlands and when elections are called, I will let you all know what I'm vying for. But for now, I'm focused on my current role," he said.
Wanyonyi, if he sticks with Westlands Parliamentary seat, will face-off with Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi who has already declared that he will contest the seat,
Havi declared last month that he had been approached by Westlands residents to run for the seat and he obliged.
Months ago, MP Wanyonyi was endorsed by Sirisia MP John Waluke to contest for Bungoma gubernatorial seat.
He however turned down the urge and said his focus is in Nairobi politics.
"I can do better for the people of Bungoma, but unfortunately, I want to tell him and the rest that my focus is in Nairobi," he said.
