Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has said he will not attend this year's State of the Nation address by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Barasa, the President has not fulfilled most of his pledges since last year's address.

"All the things he said last year were all lies. There has been insecurity in the country. Many people have died in Kerio Valley, Laikipia and through crime," he said.

The legislator also accused the Head of State of disregarding court orders.

"The statement that the President will read is written by academicians and it will not help Kenyans in any way," he added.

Asked if the move to skip the State of the Nation address was a resolution of legislators allied to United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Barasa said many MPs from across the political divide will not attend the session.

"We cannot be listening to lies every time every day. We want the President to say things he can implement," he said.
