Ida Odinga, the wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has urged politicians to accord women the respect they deserve and desist from insulting them.

Ida said it is very shameful for leaders to attack women using abusive language in public saying this sets a bad precedence.

"You can not go uttering dirty language against women unless you are not born of a woman," she said.

She said women deserve an equal platform with their male counterparts and they should not be perceived as a weaker gender.

"Women played a very big role during the struggle for independence and we should recognize their efforts instead of looking down on them. Let us not demean women in the name of politics because at the end of the day, they are part of us," she remarked.

Ida also urged members of the public to embrace political tolerance and remain united despite their political affiliations.

She also urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid inciting people instead they strive to unite them.

"Let us not rise against each other due to political difference, we need each other beyond politics. We want peaceful campaigns because this is just a season and after the August polls we would like to have our country in peace," she added.

While drumming up support for Odinga in his presidential bid, she said the ODM leader has interests of the country at heart and he shall help steer the country to greater heights.

"Odinga had an agenda for this country and he shall deliver his promises to the people," she said.
