Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general Edwin Sifuna will not contest any seat in Bungoma county next year.

He vied for the Nairobi Senate seat in 2017 but was defeated by Jubilee’s candidate Johnson Sakaja.

Prior to going for the Senate seat, he had also been defeated in the Kanduyi constituency ODM primaries by lawyer John Makali who also eventually lost during the General Election to the then Ford Kenya candidate Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Sifuna says pressure has been mounting on him to vie for any elective seat in Bungoma county but he prefers Nairobi.

“You people have used your resources campaigning for me to go for either gubernatorial, senatorial or even Kanduyi parliamentary seat, but it is unfortunate that I won’t vie for any elective seat here in 2022,” he said.

Had he elected to vie for the Kanduyi seat, Wafula would have found himself on a collision course with Wamunyinyi, one of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s new allies in Western.

Wamunyinyi who ditched Ford Kenya alongside his Tongaren counterpart Eseli Simiyu are supporters of Raila’s Azimio la Umoja movement.
