The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has instituted leadership changes in its National Executive Committee (NEC), following a number of defections.

In a statement, the party announced the appointment of Kisii Governor Simba Arati as the new Deputy National Chairperson to replace former Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong’era. Ong'era resigned from ODM in November 2022.

The Orange party also appointed Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo as the new Deputy Secretary-General to replace Florence Mutua who left ODM a month before Ong'era.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi was appointed as the new Deputy Organising Secretary to replace nominated MP Zulekha Hassan.

Kwale Woman Representative Fatuma Masito was appointed as the new Deputy National Treasurer to replace Ogla Karani while Migori Senator Eddie Oketch has been appointed as the Secretary for Humanitarian and Disaster Management Affairs to replace activist Bob Njagi.

Kakamega woman representative Elsie Muhanda has been appointed as the Secretary for Security to replace former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito.

Rebel ODM members expelled

The changes come days after the Orange party expelled a number of its members including MPs for betraying the party.

The ODM’s National Executive Council on Monday resolved to expel Tom Ojienda (Kisumu Senator), Felix Odiwour (Langata MP), Caroli Omondi (Suba South MP), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo MP), and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem MP) over gross misconduct.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was directed to pay a fine of Ksh250,000 to the party while Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Mark Nyamita (Uriri) were reprimanded and fined Ksh1 million each to be paid within sixty days.
