Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior exudes confidence that President William Ruto will be easily re-elected in 2027.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 16, 2023, while commissioning the rehabilitation of Ndukuma Dam in Muvau/Kikuumini Ward, Kilonzo noted that the Kamba community cannot produce a president just yet.

The Makueni governor explained that winning the presidency entailed having a treasure chest to finance the campaigns which usually cost a lot of money.

“You think a presidential seat comes easy? You cannot raise Ksh10 million to support a presidential campaign yet you are nursing presidential ambitions. It is impossible. Ask the current president,” Kilonzo said.

He added that the Kamba community needed to empower itself economically before one of their own can contest for the presidency.

"Before we get to the presidency we aspire, we have to change our livelihoods. We have to provide food for these people. We should look for business opportunities for these others (locals) so that they have money," the Makueni governor said.

Kilonzo added that Ruto won the president in the August 9, 2022, General Elections because he was very determined and had a big war chest.

The Makueni governor further stressed that the president is guaranteed a win in the 2027 presidential poll.

“He beat many odds to win the presidency since he had the capacity. It will be hard to unseat him. State House is not a bedroom where you just walk in,” he said.

Kilonzo's sentiments come as he continues to distance himself from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance. His party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is one of the principals in the political outfit.

The Makueni governor in late January 2023 publicly stated that he would not involve himself with any Azimio rallies and demonstrations.
