Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has declared Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir as his successor, saying he has started making arrangements to hand over power to him.

Joho said Nassir is best suited to take over the mantle after the August 9 general elections and therefore he has no fears when Nassir succeeds him for the top seat. He wished him well.

The outgoing Orange Democratic Movement ODM party governor pronounced that he has started preparing the ground for Abdulwamand Nassir who is contesting for the seat through the party.

“Mimi namaliza muhula wangu hapa Mombasa, sasa nimeswali hapa ishara ya kuonyesha nimeanza kupanga panga, kupeana ile button ya rely,so Ndungu yangu Abdulswamand nakupa hiyo kijiti endeklea inshallah.“(I have started giving the baton to the next governor because I am exiting the stage in Mombasa and therefore Abdulswamand will take over)" Joho noted while endorsing Nassir.

Joho asks Kenyans to embrace peace during EidUlFitr prayers

Speaking after morning prayers at Ronald Ngala school grounds Joho asked Kenyans to love one another and live in harmony saying the political heat being experienced in the country should not lead to chaos.

“We pray that we continue to be united, we all have an obligation as Kenyans to ensure the country is peaceful and therefore let us stop politics of name-calling after all this is our home and therefore it’s our obligation to protect our country,” he said.

Joho was accompanied by Jomvu Mp Badi Twalib, Mombasa senator Mohamed Faki, Mvita Mp Abdulswamand Nassir and Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal.

Nassir however should brace for a bruising battle against former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar who are also contesting for the Mombasa county governor seat.

Nassir who is warming up to succeed governor Joho hit at the former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko noting that he has nothing to offer in Mombasa and therefore he should be rejected.

“We pray that these campaigns will be peaceful and I ask residents not to be carried away by a wave that may not lead them to development,” said Nassir in reference to Sonko entrance in the Mombasa county governor race.

Both Nassir and Omar have termed the entrance of Sonko into the Wiper party as a mockery of Mombasa electorates especially after the former Nairobi governor was ousted from power by MCAs.

Sonko has teamed up with his running mate, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo to take over power after governor Hassan Joho exits the stage.
