Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday said the country is ready for great take-off under the Kenya Kwanza plan.

Although the country is facing some challenges, Gachagua assured the government will offer Kenyans all the support to deliver as promised.

“Today Kenya is 59 years old. A 59-year mark is a point of either great joy or hope in life or a point of despair. For Kenya, it marks a departure towards a great life ahead. Since 1964 when Kenya became a Republic, we have come a long way; Kenyans have worked hard and built a strong nation, a peaceful and respected nation with a wonderful people and great heritage,” said Gachagua, during the 59th Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nairobi.

“I have had no greater hope than I have today; As we build on the progress we have made over the years, Kenya is ready for a great takeoff under the Kenya Kwanza plan,” he added.

Gachagua said Kenyans must live as envisioned by the country’s forefathers and freedom fighters who remain great and dear every day because they shed their blood and ahead is great work.

Great aspirations

Every year, he said Jamhuri Day is marked with new hope and great aspirations and this year, under the leadership of President William Ruto, Kenyans take a greater leap not just into history but into the future, especially on the singular aspect of technology and innovation.

“As a dispatch from the past, where tech-economy was a mirage, poverty, illiteracy and disease were our common denominator. These three enemies, made the majority of Kenyans slip into a life of great indignity,” he noted.

He said Kenya has today made considerable progress in the tech race, even as he celebrated the young people who have continued to make the country proud in this space.

To dominate globally

He encouraged them to move with greater speed and dominate not only regionally, but also globally just as the country has done in athletics.

“This is a great tool towards human liberation. This course is indomitable. This is the path to an equal Kenya, where every child goes to school, every Kenyan has food on the table, where every Kenyan has access to quality and universal healthcare, and every Kenyan has clean and safe drinking water. We are leaving no one behind in this race,” the DP stated.

He said the country is also set to reap the demographic dividend since the window of opportunity opens in the year 2039, if well prepared.

“I have no doubt in my mind that we are on the move as a nation,” he stated.

Gachagua said he will support his boss, President William Ruto, to achieve the Kenya Kwanza plan.

“As we build on the progress we have made over the years, Kenya is ready for a great takeover under your leadership,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua who spoke briefly before he invited the President, insisted that leveraging on technology will be a tool that will deliver Kenyans’ liberation.
