With his administration shaping up having appointed new Cabinet Secretaries, members of parliament from Kiambu now want President William Ruto to increase the appointments he has made from the county.

Out of the 1.2 million registered voters, the MPs said the county overwhelmingly gave Ruto 606,429 votes beating all other regions insisting on the need for him to increase the county’s representation in the national government.

The MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), George Koimburi (Juja) and Elijah Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North) told Ruto to consider appointing more leaders from Kiambu to the positions of Principal Secretary and Chief Administrative Secretary for better representation.

Speaking last evening during celebrations to mark the achievement of former Gatundu North MP Francis Kigo Njenga who was recently awarded a doctorate degree, the legislators urged Ruto to ensure fairness in the distribution of government positions for all Kenyans to feel like part of his government.

The lawmakers made the remarks at a time when the scramble for government appointments continues to intensify with more leaders indicating their interest to serve in various positions.

They specifically urged the Head of State to consider appointing a leader from Gatundu North constituency which has had no representative in the national government for years now.

The lawmakers singled out that Ruto should consider hiring the services of Kigo who unsuccessfully vied for the MP position on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Out of the twelve parliamentary positions in the county, UDA only failed to bag the Gatundu North seat which Kigo lost to Kururia, a former MCA who vied as an independent candidate.

MPs opinions on apointments

“Ruto should make sure that anybody who was part of the team that helped him ascend to the highest office is part of the government. The president has been promising to hire those who unsuccessfully vied for various positions. On behalf of the Kiambu team, we are pushing to have Kigo Njenga appointed having been a devoted general. We cannot allow his doctorate degree to go to waste and for this, we are advocating for his appointment to a higher position,” Wamuchomba said.

“We are united as Kiambu MPs to say that Kigo, our fallen soldier who is equal to the task, must be given a position in the Kenya Kwanza government. We are pushing this as a team and we are sure President Ruto will hear us,” Kahangara noted.

“Consider the votes we gave you to become president and appoint Kigo Njenga in your government. He has been a loyal general and has devotedly fought for the UDA fraternity.

On his part, Koimburi affirmed that Kigo’s appointment would be a win for the country owing to the level of education he possesses.

“His appointment will be a win for Kenya since this man is highly educated and for Gatundu North which has been left out in appointments in the previous governments,” Koimburi added.

The MPs' sentiments were echoed by local leaders among them former gubernatorial aspirant Juliet Kimenia, Paul Mugo who also unsuccessfully vied for the Gatundu North parliamentary position among others who regretted that the constituency which lags behind in terms of development should have a figure in the national government.

So far, only Moses Kuria from Kiambu County has been appointed to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Investment and Industry.

The appointment of Kuria, however, left some of Ruto allies feeling disgruntled and hopeful that they will be considered for the PS and CAS jobs.

During the ceremony, Kigo, a certified public accountant announced his retirement from local politics upholding that he was set to serve the country in any capacity and urged Ruto to consider him.

“I have retired from local politics and will never again vie for the position of MP. Having graduated from local politics, I’m set and ready to serve in the national government in any capacity,” Kigo said.
