The Kikuyu Council of Elders from Gatundu South in Kiambu County have condemned the ‘unprintable’ utterances made by area MP Moses Kuria saying if not stopped, his "vulgar" language might disunite the country.

The elders, who spoke in Gatundu town on Thursday, expressed concern that the outspoken MP has lost decorum regretting that his behaviours are an embarrassment to the community and further taints the image of the council in which he is a member.

The elders, who vowed to summon him to face a disciplinary committee for flouting the values of the Kikuyu community, upheld that his speech during a campaign tour in the constituency was not only distasteful but also primitive.

Led by Kiarie Kamunguna and Njuru Ngugi who is the patron, the elders said that Kuria, an elite member of the society exhibited inexperience by going on stage to promote hate and tribalism instead of uttering statements of unity.

On invocation of the 1960’s alleged oath, the elders dismissed it as rubbish and a statement that Kuria used to promote negative ethnicity.

They maintained that the oath, if it was indeed taken, has no modern-day impact and can only affect the children of grandparents who successfully took it and not the entire community as Kuria suggested.

"Moses Kuria is a member of the council and a friend but he has gone against our norms and values. We have a disciplinary committee that will be summoning him and the committee will decide the kind of punishment they will accord him," Peter Kabi, another elder stated.

The angry elders said that Kuria should be denied any elective position in the country saying he had not only shown his inability to unite the nation but also presented himself as an immature leader who cannot be trusted with the leadership of the community.

"He does not deserve an elective position. He has proved to be inexperienced in his speeches and from our end, Kuria should be ignored by voters," Kiarie said.

They apologized to President Uhuru Kenyatta, on behalf of the community for the statements made by Kuria but vowed to take actions against him to prevent him from making further statements.

The elders urged the relevant government agencies such as National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to wake up from slumber and expedite prosecution of all leaders found making derogatory remarks that could plunge the country into disorder.
