Lobbies caution Matiang’i, Kibicho over bias

Civil society groups yesterday urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i and Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho to stop engaging in partisan politics.

In a joint statement, the groups warned the actions by the two to publicly endorse Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga is likely to cause chaos since they hold sensitive dockets that will oversee the elections.

“We are really concerned about the two and their actions. As lobby groups, we are really pleading with them to keep off publicly from endorsing anyone. Though it’s the democratic right for anyone to have their candidate they should do it privately,” said Executive Director Independent Medico-Legal Unit Peter Kiama (IMLU).

Kiama (above) said the two have already lost the trust of some Kenyans who believe they might be used by a certain formation to rig elections.

He said the State officers have been accompanying Raila to his campaigns, pledging support for his presidential bid and vowed to leverage the administrative structures to ensure he wins the August 9 polls.

The claims by the lobby groups came less than a month after Kenya Kwanza Alliance wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP accusing Matiangi, Kibicho and ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru of breaching the Election Offences Act.
