Business at the Nakuru Central Business District (CBD) came to a standstill minutes after the Supreme Court upheld the election of President-Elect William Ruto.

Residents took to the streets chanting Ruto’s name saying he had defeated plots by the government to block his ascension to power.

Mary Wairimu could not hold back her tears in celebrating the outcome saying the prayers of many Kenyans had been answered.  “Who thought that the government sponsored candidate could lose an election, God heard our prayers and he gave us hustler to the top of the job,” said Wairimu.

However, some residents expressed resentment over the outcome saying some issues for determination were ignored by the court.

James Kimani stated that the pronouncement was unfair, saying he disagrees with the outcome insisting that the country is the biggest loser.  “We accept the outcome but I am a sad man, I was vouching for a Raila Odinga presidency but the way the judges delivered the verdict was biased,” said Kimani.

At the same time, bishops from Nakuru called on supporters to celebrate with moderation and not to provoke aggrieved parties of the Supreme Court judgement.  Bishop Abraham Gitu of Apostolic Faith Church emphasized on the need to have peace during the celebrations saying all Kenyans must continue with their businesses.

Gitu also urged youths not to be misused by leaders into causing mayhem after the result saying the country needs to remain peaceful for posterity.
