Former Vice President Moody Awori on Monday said politicians should unite and support President William Ruto to deliver Kenya Kwanza's campaign manifesto.

Speaking after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi paid him a courtesy call at his home in Nairobi, the 94-year-old said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance won the election, suggesting that the opposition, which has termed the Kenya Kwanza government as illegitimate, should respect the constitution.

He said the elections are gone and politicians should stop side shows and allow the President to deliver to Kenyans.

“Kenya Kwanza won the elections on its manifesto and the manifesto emphasised the interests of the ordinary mwananchi. I am delighted to see that that is the direction it is going because we need unity. Sideshows; we want to leave them,” he said.

“Elections are gone, Kenya Kwanza is in place; let it follow its manifesto and let us root together and ensure the constitution is respected and all will be well.”

He said the President deserves respect across the political divide.

“It doesn’t matter his age, he is now our father, the father of the nation. Let’s support him,” the former VP said.

Awori's comments days after Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga, who claims Ruto did not win the last election, launched a resistance movement to force the Kenya Kwanza administration to act on the opposition's demands.

Raila, while launching the Movement for the Defence of Democracy last Thursday, said the political outfit will, among other things, lead in peaceful protests, sit-ins and boycotts aimed at forcing the government to make life more bearable for Kenyans as well as push for electoral reforms.

“We commit to fight, resist and defy this illegitimate regime side by side with you until our voices are heard and respected. We recognize that only through hardship and sacrifice can our cries be heard and acted on. Let’s make our voices heard and respected,” Raila said at a press conference in Nairobi.

“We launch a campaign of defiance; of peaceful picketing, peaceful protests, boycotts, strikes, disobedience, peaceful petitions, peaceful sit-ins and peaceful demonstrations and it begins today and now. We hereby declare the official start of a countrywide mass action.”
