Azimio la Umoja movement leaders in Mt Kenya region have condemned sustained attacks on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake brother, the ODM leader Raila Odinga by politicians who are supporting the presidential aspirations of Deputy President William Ruto.

The Odinga supporters took issue with Kenya Kwanza leaders for allegedly conducting unjust vote-hunting missions through the use of abusive and foul language in their political statements.

Under the umbrella of Ushindi Kenya, the Azimio la Umoja supporters regretted that the campaign messaging of Ruto-allied leaders is based on pure lies and insults against Uhuru and Odinga, a trend they vowed to dismantle.

While rooting for peaceful and sober political campaigns ahead of August polls, the leaders urged Odinga’s opponents to embrace moderation in their political tones in order to prevent plunging the country into disorder.

Speaking in Thika town today after installing a new team that will be mandated to popularize and sell Odinga’s campaign agendas in Kiambu County, they stated that Odinga’s name has been maligned in the vote-rich region for many years, a blemish they swore to cleanse going forward.

They maintained that Odinga has made a significant entry into the region and has garnered substantial support stating that through their numerous methods, they will work towards delivering over 65 per cent of the region’s votes to the hopeful President Kenyatta’s successor.

Led by their caucus chairman Alfred Wanyoike, the Odinga supporters vowed to face off with their UDA counterparts in the region.

“We want unity, a policy that Azimio la Umoja upholds. We don’t want abusive campaigns; we want our competitors to conduct just vote-hunt missions by convincing people on how they are better than Odinga,” Wanyoike said.

His sentiments were echoed by John Mwaniki, the Laikipia deputy governor who urged UDA supporters to stick to their lanes arguing that they were furious at Odinga’s rating in the region especially after he vowed to fight corruption when he ascends to the presidency.

Kariuki Ngugi, the Ushindi Kenya chapter chairman in Kiambu County, vowed to use representatives from all sectors and use other unique methods to popularize the presidential hopeful.
