Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has warned that Mt.Kenya region shall become a political laughing stock if it fails to make a clear stand before the August 9 polls.

Muturi said the divisions in the region might cost the residents dearly urging the leaders to unite and go back to the drawing board.

The speaker said he is on a mission to unite the region and have the people and the leaders speak in one voice which shall help them boost their bargaining power.

Speaking during a local TV show, Muturi said the presidential candidates coming to seek votes from the region are already enjoying massive support from their native areas and they just want a top-up to make their baskets full.

"You can hear some saying they only want 20 per cent or 30 per cent of the region's votes to fill up their baskets and we shouldn't allow ourselves to be divided in such a manner," Muturi said.

"The percentage of votes they are looking for indicates the value they shall give us if elected to power and we are likely to suffer," he added.

The speaker who is also eyeing the presidential seat said he is largely banking on the support of the residents to make his presidential bid successful.

"Charity begins at home and if I get support from the locals, I will be able to confidently go to other parts of the country.

"I would urge the locals to embrace and support their own leader who will look at their interests," he remarked.
