Former Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has hit back at Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba who criticised his reign as Rift Valley regional boss.

Murkomen had claimed that Natenbeya was a terrible regional commissioner who allegedly turned the region's communities against each other. According to the Senator, Natembeya failed the people of Rift Valley in delivering the government agenda.

"George Natembeya was a terrible Regional Commissioner. He was divisive and polarizing. He was solely responsible for setting communities against each other for political reasons. He failed the people of RV (Rift Valley) and Kerio Valley. His exit is good for the peace in the RV. He should have been fired," Murkomen said.

Responding to the claims, Natembeya said that Murkomen made the statement out of bitterness over a previous squabble they had at the time when he was serving as Rift Valley RC.

He revealed that he differed with Murkomen over issues surrounding illegal settlement in the Mau Forest.

He claimed that at the time, the Senator claimed that he had powers over the Mau Forest and could control everybody who opposed the illegal settlements in the area.

"He came to Mau saying that he was the government and I was like, 'what? I thought I was the government here' because I was the one who was running the government's affairs. I told him to go back and recheck to find out who was the government," said in a televised interview.

"They were used to bullying civil servants but when he found a rock (Natembeya) there, he hit it, got hurt and came back to Nairobi. He has never forgiven me," he added.
