National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said that he has the right to make his own political choices.

Muturi said his decision to join Deputy President William Ruto’s camp should not be a subject of discussion by his opponents.

“The 2010 Constitution clearly states that everybody has the freedom to join the camp of his choice without intimidation’’ said Muturi on Sunday when the Kenya Kwanza team campaigned in Western Kenya.

Muturi said he made the decision to join Kenya Kwanza Alliance after listening to his supporters in the Mt Kenya region.

“I didn’t just wake up one day and joined Kenya Kwanza. I listened to the ground and they told me to support Deputy President William Ruto,’’ said the Speaker.

Bottom-up

Muturi said Ruto is the only presidential candidate who can keep his word.

“If there is a wise and sober politician in Kenya it is William Ruto because he has come up with a nice idea of bottom-up. Let residents be given time to share their experiences so that the government can act accordingly,” he added.

Muturi asked the Azimio La Umoja candidate Raila Odinga to focus on his campaigns and stop castigating Ruto’s agenda.

“As we are making efforts to meet with Kenyans from different backgrounds, races, clans and communities Raila Odinga is in a hotel somewhere castigating our work. I want to assure him that he will go home with his friend Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.

Both Muturi, and his Senate counterpart Ken Lusaka, defied Uhuru and joined Kenya Kwanza.

Lusaka is seeking to recapture the Bungoma governor’s seat, which he lost in the last General Election, after which he was appointed Speaker. He is vying on a Ford-Kenya ticket.
