Most political parties in the country have announced new dates for their primaries ahead of August polls.

According to statements from most of them, the parties have scheduled to conduct nomination exercises on various dates next month.

For instance, the ruling Jubilee Party will conduct its primaries between April 11 and April 22.

According to Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a schedule will be shared in the coming days on how the party intends to conduct the crucial exercises.

"Jubilee Party to hold its primaries between April 11 & April 22. A schedule will be shared in coming days," Wambugu posted on his official Facebook Account.

On its part, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will conduct the exercise on April 14.

In a statement released by Anthony Mwaura, the UDA's chairman in charge of the National Elections Board, the party is ready for crucial steps to determine its flagbearers for various elective positions across the country.

"Nomination materials will start being distributed to various counties this weekend with the final batch of materials being deployed in the days leading to the nomination," said Mwaura.

He announced the training of polling clerks and returning officers at various polling centres at a date he never mentioned.

"In the spirit of enhancing transparency, international observers under Diplowatch from 17 embassies have expressed interest in being part of this historic process," he added.

This happened as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party postponed party primaries for Kilifi and Mombasa Counties which had been scheduled for April 5.

In a statement, ODM said the move was to enable ongoing consultations and consensus-building.

"The national elections board will communicate the outcome of the consultation and the consensus-building and advice on the next steps. We urge our members to exercise patience in the meantime," a section of the statement made by Catherine Mumma, the chairperson in charge of the party's NEB said.
