Kikuyu Council of Elders Nyeri County Chapter, who had earlier expressed their support for Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, has assured President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua of their support saying that the political season is now over and they must work hand in hand with the government of the day.

Speaking in Nyeri, the council led by its chairman David Muthoga said that they are now pledging full support to Ruto's government as they are optimistic that they are going to deliver the promises that they made to the Kenyans.

"We are assuring our President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, who is our son, of our support towards fulfilling their mandate to Kenyans. As we have always said, we as the Kikuyu council of elders, we always support the government of the day as it is our duty and so we must support this one as well," Muthoga said.

They also thanked retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for the smooth and peaceful transition of power without any fuss being witnessed, and for the Azimio leader Raila Odinga for maintaining peace even after disputing the outcome of the elections.

Elders urge Kenyans to work hard

He urged Kenyans to now get into working as political season is now over and the politicians are no longer giving them handouts as the campaign season is over.

"I'm urging all the Kenyans now to get into serious business of working to earn a living as you can no longer rely on politicians as the campaigns are now over and cannot give out handouts," he said.

He said it is only by supporting the government that they will be able to fulfill their mandate.

"Let us join hands in helping the government achieve its mandate. We cannot afford to be in opposition, we need to be in government for us to benefit from it," he said.
