ODM resolves to expel Jalang’o, 4 others

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has resolved to expel rebel Members of Parliament (MPs) following a disciplinary committee meeting.
The decision to expel Lang'ata's MP Felix Odiwuor (Jalang'o), Gem's Elisha Odhiambo, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Bondo's MP Gideon Ochanda, and their Suba South counterpart Caroli Omondi was arrived at by the party's National Executive Committee.
"The NEC has resolved to expel from the party Hon. Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Sen. Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Hon. Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Hon. Felix Odiwuor (Langata), and Hon. Caroli Omondi (Suba South) for defying party position and gross misconduct.
"Members facing allegations of violation of Article 11(1)(e) of the party constitution and Section 14A of the Political Parties Act 2011 by openly associating with and supporting activities of a rival political party and opposing lawful decisions/resolutions made by the party organs shall be deemed to have resigned from the party.
"The party is hereby directed to commence the process of removing them from the register of the party," ODM said in a statement.
Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris found herself on a collision course with her party following her support for the Finance Bill in parliament. She has been fined Ksh250,000 which she should pay within sixty days.
"That Esther Passaris, Women Representative for Nairobi, be reprimanded for her outright defiance of the party position on the punitive Finance Bill 2023 and that she should issue an apology to the party within seven days," ODM stated.

Duo fined
Rongo MP Paul Abuor and his Uriri counterpart, Mark Nyamita, received a lenient punishment as they avoided expulsion but were fined.
"The Hon. Paul Abuor and Hon. Mark Nyamita, who appeared in person before the Disciplinary Committee and explained the reasons for their actions, were reprimanded and fined a sum of Ksh1 million each to be paid within sixty days," the statement by the Orange Party continued to read.
Apart from fines, Nyamita and Abuor have been ordered to apologise in writing within seven days.
ODM also went to the county level and revoked the nomination of four Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu.
"NEC also recommended the revocation of the nomination of four Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu for gross misconduct. The four are Caroline Opar, Kennedy Ajwang, Peter Obaso, and Regina Kizito," the statement continued to read.
