Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has vowed to deliver majority seats to Azimio la Umoja Movement in Western Kenya in the 2022 general elections.

While noting that next year's presidential contest will be between the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto, Oparanya said he will rally the community behind the ODM leader.

"I'm in charge of Azimio la Umoja in Western. I will ensure we get the majority of the elective seats to seal the region as Azimio la Umoja zone," Oparanya said.

The governor noted that despite Luhya community being the second largest in the country, it lacks a leader to fight for its welfare, saying he is ready to fill the gap.

He said the community currently has three leaders representing them on the negotiating table, unlike other communities that have only one leader.

Oparanya also urged the youth to shun away from causing chaos during this election campaign period.

The Kakamega boss, who raised eyebrows after meeting Ruto at Maasai Mara last year, is currently serving his second and final term as governor.

He is ODM's Deputy Party Leader alongside his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho.

Last year, he expressed interest in running for the presidency on the ODM ticket only to abandon his ambition for Raila last month.
