Parties exodus not legal, Registrar now clarifies
The registrar of political parties has warned elected leaders who ditch their parties or coalitions after the election.
Some small parties allied to Azimio-One Kenya have joined the Kenya Kwanza camp after the latter was declared the winner of the presidential election of August 9.
Yesterday, following outrage by Azimio leadership, registrar Anne Nderitu came out to clarify that such a move was illegal.
“Politicians seeking to shift allegiance to other coalitions will have to terminate their initial pacts and it’s a process,” she said.

She clarified the law doesn’t envisage a situation where a single party can be a signatory to more than one coalition.
Nderitu said in a tweet that so far she hasn’t received a request from any party that wants to leave a coalition.
“So it remains to be seen, legally, how the pre and post election agreements will work out,” she tweeted.
Azimio protested the manner in which some of its members were reportedly being lured to join the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
