Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has supported the Coalitions bill, saying it is good for Mount Kenya region.

Ngirici further urged Senators to emulate the National Assembly and pass the Political Parties Amendment Bill ahead of the August polls.

"The Political Parties Amendment Bill is good for the mountain. There is no greater unity than being able to work together formally through coalitions. Senate do your job," Ngirici said.

Ngirici's sentiments come as the bill heads for the public hearings which will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

The bill was formally tabled in the Senate during the special sitting on Tuesday, paving the way for public participation, debate, and vote.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has also asked the senators to endorse the bill saying it will improve governance and delivery of services to Kenyans.

Speaking during a luncheon at State House, Nairobi, Uhuru urged the lawmakers to speed up the passing of the bill as Kenyans gear up for the August polls.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga who accompanied the president during the luncheon also asked the Senate to emulate the National Assembly and pass the bill for the benefit of all Kenyans.

He said constitutional making is a work in progress, noting that Kenyans desire laws that will ensure good governance.
