Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader has promised to build houses for Kisii and Nyamira residents so that they can leave enough land for agriculture.

Raila said the region's population has overgrown, leaving small parcels of land for agriculture.

"The fertility rate in this region is very high. When flying over here, I see a densely populated area. We will apply what is happening in South Korea where they have built good houses called gated communities for its citizens and more land is left for agriculture," Raila told a rally in Kisii on Thursday.

The ODM leader said once the houses have been built, he will construct roads, connect electricity and water, build hospitals and build schools for the residents.

Raila further said that if elected in the August polls, he will introduce smart agriculture in the country.

"The farmers will get fertiliser at a cheaper price. Tea and coffee farmers will also get value for their hard work. We will build a factory for cash crop here in Kisii which will bring jobs for the youth," he added.

Raila is on a one-day tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties to drum up support for his Azimio la Umoja Movement.

He started his 10-day tour of 10 counties in Nakuru yesterday ahead of the announcement of the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate on March 12.
