Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition supremo Raila Odinga has revealed that Tanzania President Sama Suluhu came to the country to mediate talks between the government and opposition.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the Azimio honcho claimed that Suluhu was in the country for two days but her visit was in vain.

Raila told the media that President Ruto, who initiated the meeting, kept them waiting and was a no-show during the meeting despite efforts from Tanzania's Head of State.

He also stated that the opposition has severally offered itself for talks but the government has been resistant and efforts to try to get them for talks have bore no fruit.

"Those members of that team withdrew. At the time, most members claimed they were out of the country and could not reach a quorum meaning they were not serious. There have also been attempts from outside, the President of Tanzania came here two weeks ago at the invitation of President Ruto to mediate. She was kept waiting; Not from our side, we were available, but the other side was not available. She spent two nights here and it was all in vain," he said.

In the same breath, he claimed that the President was turning a blind eye to the key issues addressed despite other people calling for talks.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader reiterated that the opposition was still open to having talks with the government on ways to manage the concerns addressed by Kenyans and resolve their conflicts amicably.

"Other people have tried, right now know other people are trying but they are resistant so basically he knows what he wants. I am ready to sit and have a talk with other people to discuss these issues. He is actually pretending, he is living in delusion that we don't have a crisis," he added.
