Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that President William Ruto's re-election bid is unstoppable.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service for Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga on Sunday, October 15, the opposition chief rubbished President Ruto's recent remarks that Azimio would not pose a significant challenge to him in the 2027 polls.

President Ruto had during his recent tour to Raila's Nyanza backyard indicated that the former prime minister would not participate in the next general election due to old age.

The Head of State went on to claim that Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, who is reportedly being groomed to succeed Raila, was too weak to defeat him.

Ruto made the remarks while reminiscing about his days in the opposition with Raila back in 2007.

The President urged the former prime minister to reciprocate his support by endorsing his re-election bid in 2027.

“I was a Baba (Raila) ardent supporter and me and others came together and we supported him but unfortunately we never got the presidency. I have voted for Baba and I am calling on him to support me in 2027,” President Ruto said while addressing residents of Homa Bay on October 7.

"Do I look like someone Kalonzo can defeat?" Ruto posed.

Responding to Ruto on Sunday, Raila downplayed the President's remarks, saying the opposition would outwit the Kenya Kwanza rivals in 2027.

Kalonzo is honest

He further noted that Kalonzo was ten times better than Ruto because of his honesty.

"We have walked with Kalonzo from the KANU days. We formed LDP together. We joined Narc together and also formed ODM together. We have vied twice with him and we have never lost any election; our victory was stolen," Raila said during Oburu's 80th birthday celebrations, where Kalonzo was the chief guest.

"This man has a good heart. He has the charisma and he is also a Christian. Kalonzo is somebody you can trust... Kalonzo is ten times better than Ruto. He is an honest man. We will stand with him.

"Ruto wants to divide Kalonzo and I regarding who will vie. One of us will vie in 2027. Ruto thinks he is very clever. We will show him that he knows nothing," Raila said adding that they will teach Ruto a lesson.
