Raila threatens to expose Chebukati’s secret visit

Azimio leader Raila Odinga now claims that former electoral commission chair Wafula Chebukati and two other commissioners visited his home seeking facilitation to rig the last General Election in his favour.

Raila challenged Chebukati and former commissioners Prof Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu to publicly deny or confirm that they visited his home before announcing the 2022 presidential results seeking favours.

“I have pictures to confirm this, if they deny I will unleash them,” Raila said during a public rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, yesterday.

Opposition leader also noted that the former commissioners claimed that some people tried to bribe them.

“They asked me for something and I have evidence to that effect,” Raila told the crowd, adding that it was after he refused to bulge that they gifted President William Ruto victory.

Raila further claimed that the Chebukati three also visited former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s home, saying he has video evidence.

Raila has since turned to President William Ruto to accept defeat in the 2022 elections and vacate State House.

He asked President Ruto to accept that he did not win the August 2022 presidential elections, even as he faulted the Head of State for the high taxation in the country.

“Accept that you were defeated in the election, leave State House for Baba to get in. We are speaking the truth, we do not want war, and we do not want threats. We have our rights as Kenyans, and they cannot be snatched by a hawk, Kenyans deserve a leader that they elected,” he said.

Raila asked Kenyans to reject punitive taxes being introduced by the Ruto regime, saying they must be approved by Parliament before they are imposed.

He claimed that the proposed privatisation of public assets was meant to benefit the Head of State and his cronies in government.

The Azimio leader further reacted to a move by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate claims of rigging in the 2022 polls.

he said that the truth can only be revealed if Azimio is allowed to scrutinise the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers.

“I have seen DCI (Mohamed Amin) saying he wants to investigate. DCI, you are an employee of Ruto, you cannot conduct investigations,” Raila stated.

Numerous complaints

In a statement dated January 25, DCI boss Amin Mohamed noted that they have received numerous complaints regarding the polls, faulting IEBC for running a faulty election.

“Instructively, the complainants contend that there are various manipulations that point to documentary falsification and outright forgery of the subject documents,” the statement.

He said DCI is investigating the validity and authenticity of the documents in question, asking IEBC to provide Forms 34B that were used to tally verify and declare the result of the presidential elections of 9th August 2022.

However, while addressing a prayer meeting in Narok yesterday, President Ruto said nobody will give him permission to rule the nation. President Ruto affirmed that the August 9 election clearly demarcated the mandate of each faction.

Despite the notion that the ongoing rallies by the Azimio coalition might disrupt the conduct of his administration, Ruto maintained he will not be distracted.

“We don’t need the permission of those people to do the work we are doing. This work will continue whether they like it or not,” Ruto said.

 Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka urged their supporters to maintain peace going forward.

“You are being targeted to interfere with people’s properties and peace so that they can use it hit back, do not fall into their trap,” Kalonzo said.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on her side noted that the opposition will not be intimidated by the government to drop its bid to fight for their stolen victory.

“President Ruto should be told that we will not be cowed, we will fight to the bitter end for what is rightfully ours,” Karua said.

 Raila said that the Azimio coalition will hold similar rallies in various parts of the country to protest over the August 9 election results.

 “We will go to every part of the country starting with Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisii, Kiambu after which we will return to Nairobi for the mother of all rallies,” Raila said, adding that the will of the people must be guarded by all means.
