Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has officially launched her bid for the Kisumu Woman Representative seat.

Odinga said it was her democratic right to contest for the seat and should not be vilified just because she is a daughter of Kenya’s first Vice President Jaramogi Odinga and sister of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“I am ready and will face my opponents at the ballot. I don’t fear them. But no one should try to gag me,’’ she said during a meeting at Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu yesterday.

She said the electorate should judge her by her qualifications and experience. “I merit it and so people should be allowed the freedom to make their own decisions,’’ she said.

Odinga said she will use the networks she created when she was deputy governor to endear herself to the people. She told voters that they had the power to make a difference by choosing the leaders who they want, adding that when they vote their values are translated into action.

Odinga served under Governor Jack Ranguma from 2013 to 2017. Incumbent Kisumu Woman Rep Rosa Buyu is running for the Kisumu West parliamentary seat currently held by Olago Aluoch.
